A Kent County resident in Michigan has recently been confirmed to contract the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus. The state Department of Health and Human Servicers announced the discovery on Thursday, 9th of December. To date, 20 American States have confirmed the detection of Omicron and Michigan is now one of them!
The MDHHS director, Elizabeth Hertel stated that it is a point of concern and not a surprise that Omicron has reached Michigan. The now confirmed case was reported to the Michigan Disease Surveillance System on the 3rd of December which was then followed by a thorough genetic sequencing procedure at CDC. And on the 9th of Dec, the CDC officials confirmed that it was a case of the omicron variant. Upon further investigation, it was found that the respective patient was fully vaccinated but didn’t receive a booster dose.
According to healthcare experts, the variant is likely to spread all over the country more easily than the SARS-CoV-2. However, they are hopeful that this time they are prepared well with safer vaccines. And they continuously urge people to get vaccinated as soon as possible and practice all the possible preventive measures like social distancing and wearing face masks strictly.
