The sudden rise in the Omicron cases postpones the Critics’ Choice Awards
The Critics' Choice Association stated on Wednesday that the 27th Critics' Choice Awards, which were set to take place in person on Jan. 9, will be postponed. The show, which is planned to air on The CW and TBS, has yet to be rescheduled. The current spike in COVID-19 cases due to the Omicron form is cited as the main cause for the delay.
The organization stated that after careful consideration and candid discussions with their partners at The CW and TBS, they have collectively decided to postpone the 27th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards because of the need of the hour. They further said that they are in daily contact with L.A. County Health Officials, and now working hard to locate a new date during the forthcoming awards season to host their annual gala in person, with everyone's safety and health maintaining their top concern. As soon as they have further information, they’ll be sharing it with friends and colleagues in the entertainment sector.
The Critics' Choice Association announced just two days ago that the Jan. 9 program would go on as planned. However, as concerns over the Omicron variant continue to grow, these plans have clearly become unsustainable. Moreover, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences stated earlier on Wednesday that the Governor Awards, which were scheduled for Jan. 15, will be postponed to a date to be determined.
